ABIS Energy Group hosted a “Friends of Guyana” dinner in London during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The dinner was attended by HE President David Granger, Foreign Minister the Hon Carl Greenidge, Director General Audrey Waddell, His Excellency the High Commissioner to the UK, Hamley Case. The dinner was also attended by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Mr Barney Crockett.

ABIS are coordinating and managing an investment in Guyana, that will create a business requiring training of skilled local personnel and they believe this will underpin further opportunities in the future. ABIS Energy’s MD said, “The opportunity to continue to build our relationship with the Co-operative Republic of Guyana is something we are taking very seriously and we are committed to assisting the Country in any way we can as their oil and gas sector develops in the coming years around the significant offshore finds that have been made”.

In his welcome address, the High Commissioner observed: “I hope for and look forward to Guyana and Aberdeen forging a long and mutually beneficial twinning relationship”.

In reply, the Lord Provost welcomed the opportunity to build and to create a spirit of co-operation between the City of Aberdeen and Guyana. “Aberdeen has more than 40 years as the Oil and Gas capital of Europe. The UK and Guyana share a common language and indeed the Guyana diaspora has made a significant contribution to the public life of the UK”.
