Marubeni-Itochu wants to invest in Suriname

PARAMARIBO — The Marubeni-Itochu conglomerate has its eyes on Suriname. A trade delegation therefore met with President Chandrikapersad Santokhi on Thursday. Also present were members of the Suriname Investment and Trade Agency (Sita).

The conglomerate sees enormous potential in Suriname and is willing to enter into a partnership with the government based on a win-win situation. “We want to be a partner in the development of Suriname,” said Faisal Naseem, CEO of Sooner. To that, Santokhi said that the government has a policy that encourages investment and that it is willing to facilitate and guide serious investors.

ABIS Energy last hosted a Trade Mission to Suriname in October 2022. The delegation included, Senior representatives from MITI, Houston and Calgary. It’s pleasing to see that MITI have followed the original exploratory Trade Mission.
